Afro-Latinos: Culture, Power, and the People

This course explores the culture, history, and power of Afro-Latinos. Topics include historical background of African-descendant peoples in the Spanish-speaking Americas; racial ideologies and formation of Afro-Latinos in Latin America and the U.S.; exploration of what it means to be racially Black and ethnically Latine; and cultural expression through Afro-Latino poetry and music. Taught in English.
