Catalog description

This course examines the social, political, and cultural transformations in Russia from the Decembrist Revolt of 1825 to the contemporary period. Key topics include the autocratic Russian Empire, revolutionary movements, the rise and fall of the Soviet Union, the experience of World War Two, Cold War developments domestically and abroad, the role of political dissent, and post-Soviet developments including the development of Vladimir Putin’s autocracy. Prerequisite(s): ENGL 133W and 3 hours of HIST-prefix coursework.
