Death, Dying, and Death Investigations in U.S. History

Catalog description

The course provides an overview of a new and growing subfield of U.S. history. Students examine a variety of topics, including mass death events, violent deaths (such as suicides and homicides), the growth of medicine and its impact on death, dying, and death investigations, and attitudes toward death and dying. Course especially emphasizes social location in terms of death history by analyzing death, dying, and death investigations through the lenses of race, class, and gender.
