Catalog description

Analysis of the American Civil War during the nineteenth century. The course assesses the causes and the consequences of the sectional conflict between the North and the South. In particular, it examines the role of chattel slavery, the crisis of the federal Constitution, the campaigns of the Union and Confederate forces, and the plans for postwar reconstruction. Furthermore, significant themes of politics, labor, gender, and violence will be considered.
