Catalog description

The course will provide an overview of a new and growing subfield of U.S. history. Students will examine a variety of topics, including mass death events, violent deaths (such as suicides and homicides), the growth of medicine and its impact on death, dying, death investigations, and attitudes toward death and dying. The course will especially emphasize social location in terms of death history by analyzing death, dying, and death investigations through the lenses of race, class, and gender.
