Catalog description

This course introduces students to the history of Europe since 1789. Between the French Revolution and the present, European society has undergone vast and sometimes violent changes, ranging from industrialization, to demands by excluded groups such as women and workers for membership in the political nation, to collapse into world war during the first half of the most recent century. Europe thereafter saw Cold War division and the loss of empires, before moving into a present era of pressures driven by globalization, immigration, and efforts to integrate while creating a more pluralistic society.
