Catalog description

Analysis of Latin American history from the colonial period to the present. The class examines indigenous cultures, colonial structures, demographic patterns, independence movements, post-colonial challenges, economic dependency, and political instability. It also considers the relationship between Latin American nations and the United States as well as the search for order across the hemisphere. It highlights the nations of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
