Catalog description
Students will explore the mass-mediated rhetoric that surrounds social protest–both from protestors and resisters. Students will understand the history and development of media within sites of social protest, the roles of spectator/consumer towards media, define the social movement, study its development, and examine the specific mediated and rhetorical strategies that movements generally employ. By the end of the course, students should be familiar with specific social movements throughout history and have a better understanding of the mass communicative construction of social protest.
