Catalog description

This course covers the clinical and observation portion in the medical-surgical clinical environment. Direct patient care and working with registered nurses and other medical disciplines in a health care facility are the main components of the course. Simulation labs are also covered in this course, covering medical-surgical scenarios to prepare nursing students for patient care. Simulations are high and middle-fidelity experiences and labs with mannequins or real actors/actresses. Observations are in health care facilities in the emergency, operating room, catheterization laboratory, wound care team, respiratory therapy, intensive care unit, radiology, medical-surgical floors, and clinics. Clinical, lab, and observational experiences provide the student with an opportunity to apply theoretical concepts and implement safe care to patients and selected groups in a variety of settings. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Associate or Bachelor Level Nursing program; NURS 212, NURS 300, and NURS 300L. Corequisite(s): NURS 301.
