Catalog description

The clinical practicum is a supervised field experience in a mental health counseling field setting during which students practice specific clinical skills, including interviewing, assessment, intervention, documentation, and consultation. Students use fundamental communication and interviewing principles and perform initial intake assessments with individuals, couples, and/or families. As Part I of a two-part practicum, this course requires 50 clinical field hours broken down as follows: 20 hours of direct client contact and 30 indirect hours (including 6 hours of supervision). Students are responsible to research and comply with the specific clinical experience requirements of their state.
