Catalog description

Emphasizes trauma-informed practice with client systems across diverse populations using the World Health Organization (WHO) categories of violence: self-directed, interpersonal, and collective. Considers violence occurring within the family (e.g., intimate partner violence, child maltreatment/neglect/ abuse, and elder abuse) and community (e.g., violent crime, gang violence, and homicide), as well as global societies (e.g., economic violence, and political violence). Emphasizes the foundational role of racism in various trauma and violence scenarios and addresses the unique needs of families and communities impacted by poverty and marginalization. Emphasizes community-engaged practice and macro social work strategies for prevention and intervention, examining the influence of policy on social work practice and promoting community-engaged and participatory action research approaches to program development and evaluation.
