Catalog description

A study of homeland security and emergency management policy and administration. This class offers a detailed understanding of all critical components that comprise homeland security and emergency management in the United States to cope with the impacts of emergencies, disasters, and catastrophes. Students will gain an understanding of the policy, strategy, structure, and operations of the agencies and organizations involved in homeland security and emergency management in the United States, as well as knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with relevant Federal laws, regulations, and guidance. Students will gain familiarity with the structure and terminology of various rules and regulations in the different levels of government in the U.S., such as, Stafford Act, the National Response Framework, Title X, Title XIV, Title 32, Amendment X and State Sovereignty. Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to search for and find appropriate rules or regulations and understand how to apply appropriate rules and regulations to guide the direction of work or make decisions. Prer., Graduate and nondegree graduate students only. Meets with CRJU 5960.
