Catalog description

One lecture. This is a lab-based course for prospective secondary math/science teachers where students are introduced to the teaching profession through observations and teaching science or mathematics lessons in the K-12 setting. Students will be able to: define and identify inquiry using specific examples of inquiry modeled in classroom instruction; design, teach, and reflect upon inquiry-based lessons; write objectives, essential questions, and formative assessments for each lesson; develop and utilize probing questions to determine students’ acquisition of knowledge; apply strategies that promote instructional equity; demonstrate basic proficiency in the use of technology; implement safe classroom practices; demonstrate classroom management strategies that assist in classroom instruction; reflect on instructional practices and impact on student learning; implement lesson openers and closures for each lesson.
