Three lecture. 0 This course provides an introduction to the classification, causes, and treatment of various disorders, including anxiety, mood, schizophrenic, substance abuse, personality, and developmentally-related disorders. Students will be able to: discuss historical views of abnormal behavior and the role of society and law as they relate to abnormal behavior; demonstrate an understanding of the research strategies used to study psychological disorders; explain how the different models/approaches explain the causation of mental illness, including the Biological, Psychodynamic, Behavioral, Humanistic, Cognitive, and Socio-Cultural models; describe assessment techniques and classification criteria used to help diagnose the major mental disorders; and explain how the different models/approaches are used to treat mental illness, including the Biological, Psychodynamic, Behavioral, Humanistic, Cognitive, and Socio-Cultural models. Prerequisite(s): PSY 101 . Grading Option: Letter Grade Only
