Three lecture. Introduction to the international system, its actors and their capabilities; international political economy; ends and means of foreign policy; international cooperation, tension, and conflict. Students will be able to: describe and interpret the nature of the international political system and its actors; describe, explain, and interpret and compare the major theories of international relations; identify and explain the concepts of the nation-state, national interests and national power; describe the structure of international political economy and compare and contrast the strategies undertaken by nation-states therein; describe and interpret the nature of and interests involved in foreign policy; explain the evolution of cooperation and conflict in international relations.
