Catalog description
Five lecture. Six lab. This introductory nursing course focuses on the core components of nursing practice. Emphasis will be placed on professional roles of the nurse, the nursing process, critical thinking, basic assessment, communication skills, medication administration and basic nursing skills. Students will be able to: identify frameworks for prioritizing client care; demonstrate competence in performing nursing skills in the skills lab; apply evidence-based practice to client care; identify the safety needs of patients and nurses; identify ethical and legal behaviors of a nurse; demonstrate the ability to formulate a plan of care based on accurate client assessment; utilize technology appropriately in client care; report on therapeutic communication styles of other healthcare professionals. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the nursing program. Corequisite(s): NUR 114 . Pre/Corequisite(s): BIO 205.
