Intermediate Navajo I

Catalog description

Four lecture. Emphasis on improving basic skills in speaking, comprehension, reading, and writing. Taught in Navajo. Students will be able to: demonstrate comprehension of the gist and numerous details of written descriptions of objects, people, places, and events, authentic passages that relate to topics containing subjective information and/or current events; using an appropriate amount of creativity, improvisation, and elaboration, eEmploy the writing process in the target language (e.g., organizing thoughts, composing, revising, proofreading) to describe, express opinions, and narrate a series of events using the past, present or future time frames; initiate, respond, and contribute to face-to-face conversations in the target language with some spontaneity using present and past tenses; comprehend the main idea and some details of narrations of events, descriptions and/or opinions from a speaker who uses natural pace and articulation of Navajo language. From a speaker who uses natural pace and articulation of Navajo, aurally comprehend the gist and some details of narrations of events, descriptions and/or opinions; describe and exhibit initial a basic understanding of cultural norms, values, beliefs, and regional variations within areas where the Navajo language is used. Prerequisite(s): NAV 102 or consent of instructor. General Education: Written and Oral Communication: Communication and Languages Grading Option: May be taken for S/U credit with instructor approval.
