Catalog description

Three lecture. 0 Development of understanding and enjoyment of various musical forms and styles including an introduction to musical history. Relates concepts of music style and technique to those of other arts. Students will be able to: describe basic musical concepts: including but not limited to sound, rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, and form in music; demonstrate understanding of the materials and fundamentals of music; discuss historical styles and forms of music from ancient Greece through the present day; communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing; identify musical instruments and their unique sound qualities as well as families of instruments and their history; evaluate the cultural context influencing the composition of works of music. General Education: Arts and Humanities Grading Option: Letter Grade Only
