Catalog description

Three lecture. Cultural development of human civilizations from the Renaissance era to the present as reflected in the literature, visual arts, architecture, and performing arts of the various periods. Students will be able to: identify and classify ideas and artifacts within different historical, regional, and cultural contexts; analyze major trends in the historical development of philosophy, art, literature, music, and religious belief systems within different historical, regional, and cultural contexts; analyze the relationship between socio-economic, religious, scientific, and political events and creative processes and artifacts that define specific cultures and civilizations; evaluate the artistic, literary, and musical contributions made by major contributors to the heritage of specific cultures and civilizations; explain how the ideas and values of specific cultures and civilizations become embodied in works of art, literature, and music that those cultures and civilizations create; explore inter-relationships between art, literature, music, religion, and philosophy within different historical, regional, and cultural contexts; Pre/Corequisite(s): ENG 102 .
