3 0 This course introduces students to the foundational principles of the outdoor hospitality industry, including campground operations, the evolution of camping in America, ethical guest service practices, and the role of outdoor recreation in communities. Students will explore business fundamentals, industry standards, and professional expectations essential to careers within RV parks, campgrounds, and related sectors of outdoor lodging. Students will be able to: Define the outdoor hospitality industry, differentiating campground and RV park operations from traditional lodging sectors. Describe key historical developments that led to the growth of modern camping, RV travel, and outdoor lodging. Explain the core operational systems of a campground or RV park, including guest services, facilities, utilities, and safety requirements, using industry standards such as NFPA 1194 as a reference. Demonstrate introductory customer service and communication techniques. Apply ethical principles and professional conduct to common operational challenges by developing or evaluating campground policies that protect guest experience, safety, and environmental stewardship. Articulate career pathways and professional expectations within the outdoor hospitality industry.
