Three lecture. Three lab. Examine the forces behind natural disasters that have caused great loss of life and property throughout history with a focus on causes, impacts on human communities, and protective strategies. Students will be able to: Apply the principles of scientific inquiry to exploring natural disasters. Describe the processes that cause natural disasters. Identify the types of natural disasters that may affect different regions by examining the physical conditions. Evaluate human influences on the severity of natural disasters. Describe improvements in technologies for identifying and predicting natural hazards. Explain mitigation and/or risk management strategies in areas prone to natural disasters. Prerequisite(s): ENG 098 or higher English course or placement above ENG 098. General Education: Natural Sciences Grading Option: Letter Grade Only
