3 0 An introduction to the science of wildland fire, fire’s role in forested ecosystems, and wildland fire management. Students will be able to: 1. Identify the basic physical and chemical attributes of fire. 2. Identify how terrain, weather, and fuels affect fire behavior. 3. Identify the basic elements of fire management. 4. Evaluate fire’s effects on biotic and abiotic factors. 5. Identify techniques used to suppress, ignite, and manage fires. 6. Identify the complexity of fire and fuel management in the wildland urban interface. 7. Evaluate the characteristics of FireWise homes. 8. Describe models commonly used in fire management.
