Communication in Conservation

Catalog description
Three Lecture. Three Lab. This course focuses on developing communication styles within Forestry and Conservation, including creative writing and technical writing. The application of philosophical texts, historical documents, and personnel narratives to influence land management decisions is also emphasized. Students will be able to: describe the value of various forms of communication in promoting land management and conservation efforts; synthesize information from reputable sources; develop various communication products, such as podcasts, websites, pamphlets, fact sheets, scientific reviews and other writings; demonstrate proficiency in the use of software used in communication; demonstrate the ethical use of emerging technologies; evaluate their own writing as well as their peers; adapt writing style for various target audiences; apply knowledge of copyright laws and requirements for generating fully accessible communication products; conduct and communicate results of laboratory and/or field experiments. Pre/Corequisite(s): ENG 102 or equivalent. General Education: Natural Sciences
