Professional Development and Operations in Fire

Catalog description

This course fosters professional aptitudes in students interested in the fields of fire ecology and fire operations throughout agency, state, and private organizations. Students will focus on developing practical skills through activities, readings, and exercises. Students will learn to understand job application processes and apply to federal jobs; learn to write federal résumés and cover letters; be provided with opportunities to build hard skills; and explore their own future in the fire ecology and operations. Students will be able to: define the positions in the Incident Command System develop effective resumes for use in both federal and private sectors; identify hiring challenges and opportunities in the wildland fire workforce; analyze the qualification systems in sectors of fire operations including tribal, private, NGOs, state and federal organizations; demonstrate the importance of continuing education throughout a career; evaluate opportunities for future education and next steps in the student’s journey. Pre/Corequisite(s): ENG 102.
