Catalog description
Three lecture. Literature by and about women with emphasis on stereotypes, changing roles, and psychological and philosophical concerns. Students will be able to: recognize the distinction between female archetypal patterns and current social stereotypes; (Knowledge) analyze historical portrayals and archetypal patterns of women in literature; develop an understanding of the social and cultural contexts which have contributed to changes in women’s roles in society and women’s images in the arts; (Synthesis) demonstrate the ability to evaluate poetry, short stories, essays, drama and novels; (Application) relate the universality of major themes in women’s literature to their own life stories and those of real and fictional women.
