Indigenous American Literature

Catalog description

3 Lecture. Critical reading and analysis of Indigenous American literature-including, but not limited to, oral stories, creative nonfiction, critical essays, fiction, and poetry-addressing common Indigenous American themes and historical and cultural concerns. Students will be able to: Students will be able to: 1. define literary terms and techniques commonly employed in Indigenous American literature. 2. describe the influence of historical and cultural contexts in Indigenous American literature. 3. interpret Indigenous American literature, explaining relationships between form and technique. 4. develop skills in analyzing and synthesizing contemporary concerns and trends in Indigenous American literature to support a thesis Pre/Corequisite(s): Pre- or Co-requisite: ENG 102.
