Emergency Medical Services First Response Training Course

Catalog description
Two lecture. Two lab. Working knowledge of emergency medicine per the U.S. Department of Transportation guidelines. Students will be able to: understand the roles and responsibilities of the first responder; understand the major body components of anatomy and physiology; demonstrate CPR; understand the basic mechanics of respiration and circulation; recognize closed and open injuries; demonstrate immobilizing fractures and dislocations; demonstrate knowledge of practical skills; describe procedures for assisting in normal and abnormal childbirth; demonstrate the severity of a burn and treatment; understand the priority levels for triage purposes; use simple tools in the extrication of patients from vehicles.
