Catalog description
Three lecture. Development and purpose of the community college in the United States including current practices and issues. A methods course that focuses on analysis of teaching and learning styles, delivery, student assessment at course and program level, and curriculum development. Completing EDU 47, EDU 48, and EDU 49 is equivalent to EDU 50. Students will be able to: express the current accepted mission and philosophy of the community college as well as justify their own interpretations of the philosophy; examine the articulation and transfer system of arizona; explain the purpose of the academic programs and student services as offered by community colleges as they relate to the college mission; describe the characteristics of the community college student clientele including demographics of age, gender, ethnicity, and level of preparation for college; analyze teaching and learning styles; formulate pertinent issues for logical discussion within the class; develop a base of information upon which to improve teaching and learning; practice methodology of delivery and curriculum development; demonstrate understanding of course and program level assessment procedures.
