Catalog description

Three lecture. Study of the relationship between the child, the family, the community and the early childhood educators. Involves multicultural issues and diversity. Students will be able to: analyze the effects family involvement has on a child’s development (2a,b,c, 3d, 4a,b,c, 11.1-4); relate the historical perspective of family involvement and education; explain the roles of the family in early childhood education (2a, 3d, 4a,b); explain the roles of the community in early childhood education (2a,b,c, 3d, 4a,b,c,d, 11.1-4); compare the roles of effective home-school-community relationships (2a,b,c, 4a,b,c, 11.1-4); identify characteristics and risks factors of abusive parents (3d); analyze the importance of a collaborative relationship with families and the community (2b,c, 3d, 4a,b,c,d, 11.1-4); identify and demonstrate factors for effective communication; and examine rights, responsibilities and advocacy & the appropriate application (3d), (NAEYC and ADE standards).
