Child Guidance

Catalog description
Three lecture. Exploration, through observation and recording, of behaviors of young children. Emphasis placed on positive guidance techniques to promote pro-social behaviors and self- guidance for young children. Students will be able to: define pro-social guidance (1a,b, 9.3-4, 10.5); assess young children’s behaviors in the learning environment (1a,b, 3b,c, 9.3-4, 10.5); define the teacher’s role in promoting a pro-social learning environment (1a,c, 4a, 9.3-4, 10.1-6); describe a pro-social learning environment (1a,c, 9.3-4, 10.5-6); identify techniques of positive intervention, including conflict resolution, positive reinforcement, and redirection (3a, 4a-d, 9.3-4, 10.1-4, 10.6); develop techniques and strategies to promote social and emotional guidance in young children (3b,c, 4c,d, 9.3-4, 10.1, 10.3-4); and recognize the importance of family involvement in promoting pro-social behavior (1a,b, 2a-c, 3d, 9.3-4, 10.5-6), (NAEYC and ADE standards).
