Human Anatomy and Physiology II

Catalog description

Three lecture. Three lab. Continuation of structure and function of the human body. Topics include endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems, pregnancy and development, and fluid and electrolyte balance. Students will be able to: identify or describe the histology, detailed gross anatomy, physiology, regulation, and homeostatic imbalances of the endocrine, digestive, male and female reproductive, cardiovascular, lymphatic and immune, respiratory, and urinary systems (I-X); describe the composition and function of blood, including each formed element’s identification, function, and development (V-X); describe the functions of various body hormones, including examples of selected disorders resulting from their imbalance (I-IX); describe the regulation of water balance and the control and distribution of the ionic components of body fluids (I, V-IX); explain the regulation of acid-base balance in the body and the complications of acidosis and alkalosis (V-IX); describe the changes that occur in women during pregnancy and the various stages and events of fertilization and embryonic and fetal development (IV); integrate and apply knowledge across multiple body systems to explain complex physiological processes (I-IX); demonstrate knowledge of laboratory safety and procedures (X); perform laboratory activities using appropriate laboratory equipment, specimens, materials, supplies, software, and/or simulations relevant to the course (I-X).
