Three lecture. Three lab. An introductory course in Biology emphasizing central principles related to cellular structure and function. Course will include molecular structure, cell structure, reproduction, metabolism, and genetics. Students will be able to: evaluate scientific questions using the scientific method and hypothesis testing; demonstrate an understanding of the molecular structure and function of biological molecules; demonstrate an understanding of basic cellular structure and function; demonstrate an understanding of enzyme-mediated metabolic reactions; demonstrate an understanding of cell signaling and signal transduction; demonstrate an understanding of cellular respiration; demonstrate an understanding of photosynthesis; evaluate patterns of genetic inheritance; demonstrate an understanding of cellular reproduction; demonstrate an understanding of the processes of DNA replication, transcription and translation; evaluate the impact of biotechnology on society; communicate the results of laboratory experiments using quantitative data evaluate data in a visual format (e.g. graph) Prerequisite(s): ENG 098 or higher English course or placement above ENG 098. Pre/Corequisite(s): MAT 097 or higher math course or placement above MAT 097. General Education: Natural Sciences Grading Option: Letter Grade Only
