Automotive Engine Long Block Service Lab

One lecture. Three lab. Continuing laboratory experience in engine service and rebuild; emphasizing the “long block” assembly. Students will disassemble, inspect, and service the engine block for warpage, alignment and bore, service crankshaft, service camshafts and timing, service pistons and rods and service plugs, seals, covers, damper and flywheel. Students will be able to: inspect engine for source of noises; check engine oil pressure; test compression; remove and replace engine assembly; clean engine; inspect block for warp; remove and replace main bearings; remove and replace crankshaft; remove and replace camshaft bearings; remove and replace camshaft; remove and replace timing components (gears, chains, belts, sprockets); remove and replace pistons; fit piston pins; remove and replace connecting rod bearings; remove and replace core plugs; remove and replace timing cover and seals; remove and replace rear seals; remove and replace crankshaft damper and flywheel. Prerequisite(s): AUT 107 . Grading Option: May be taken for S/U credit.
