Fingerspelling and Numbers

Catalog description

Three lecture. Overview of basic fingerspelling techniques. Concentration on receptive and expressive skills including manual alphabet production and numbers. Focus and continue methods, theory, and skill development including speed, dexterity, clarity, and loan signs. Also includes advanced use of numbers, prefixes, suffixes, and polysyllabic words. Students will be able to: demonstrate knowledge of the techniques of fingerspelling and numbering while incorporating in ASL (structure, grammar, etc.); demonstrate understanding of the use of fingerspelling and numbers with other signers; analyze and compare various techniques of fingerspelling and number skills. Prerequisite(s): ASL 101 Grading Option: May be taken for S/U credit.
