Catalog description

One lecture. Five lab. Introduction to hand building techniques, wheel throwing, glazing and other decorative techniques, kiln firing and ceramics history. Students will be able to: prepare clay for use; demonstrate techniques of forming clay by hand and on the potter’s wheel; demonstrate surface decoration techniques; describe the properties of glazes and demonstrate their use; describe the different types of kilns; demonstrate how to fire ceramic ware in a kiln; and describe the history of ceramics and ceramic techniques. Grading Option: May be taken for S/U credit.
