Catalog description
Three lecture. Historical overview and appreciation of painting, sculpture, architecture, film, and crafts. Examines individual works of art with regard to both their formal qualities and the way they reflect the shifting patterns of culture. Field trips. Students will be able to: discuss the nature of art, aesthetics, creativity, purposes, style, and critical evaluation; employ the communicative language of vision: form and content, visual elements, and principles of design; describe a broad range of art disciplines, media, and processes; identify and discuss historic world art styles and related cultural values; identify the many ways the art of today relates to the art of the past; identify and discuss art forms of the recent past and contemporary issues; write a review of a gallery or museum exhibition.
