Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to the principles and practices of civil litigation, essential for paralegals involved in civil proceedings. Students will learn about the entire litigation process, from the initial client interview through the final resolution of a case. Key topics include the stages of litigation, jurisdiction, pleadings, discovery, pre-trial motions, trial procedures, and post-judgment actions. The course emphasizes the practical skills needed to assist attorneys in managing civil cases, such as drafting and filing legal documents, organizing case files, conducting legal research, and coordinating discovery. Ethical considerations and the paralegals responsibilities in civil litigation will also be addressed.
