The interaction between Africa and the Spanish-speaking world is not a recent development; African individuals have been present in Spain, the Caribbean, and South America for centuries, influencing the cultures and societies of these regions. Similarly, Spanish colonization in Africa, particularly in territories such as Western Sahara and Equatorial Guinea, has had a profound and lasting impact on some African societies, shaping their history, traditions, and modern-day dynamics. Students explore various aspects of this complex relationship, including cultural exchanges, historical events, and social influences that have shaped both African and Spanish-speaking cultures. Topics focus on the cultures, traditions, and history of Western Sahara and Equatorial Guinea, delving into the colonial legacy and its enduring effects on these regions. This course provides students with the opportunity to understand and appreciate the shared history and continuing dialogue between Africa and the Spanish-speaking world.
