Spanish for Sustainability

Catalog description

Students examine how sustainability aims to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own, focusing on three key pillars: environmental protection, social development, and economic growth. Through diverse cultural approaches and real-life materials, the course investigates how communities in the Hispanic world—specifically Latin America, Spain, U.S. Latinx communities, and Equatorial Guinea—are collaborating to promote prosperity and protect the planet. Students understand how these regions are addressing poverty, economic growth, social needs (such as education, health, gender equality, and job opportunities), and climate change. The course emphasizes the importance of Indigenous cultures and communities in this context. Finally, students examine the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework for global transformation. Semester(s) Offered: Offered as needed
