Catalog description

Students explore the diverse human circumstances that affect mental and physical health in the Hispanic world, examining how these issues are represented in a variety of visual materials, including photography, film, graphic novels, short films, blogs, and more. By analyzing these mediums, students gain insight into the ways in which health, disability, and identity intersect with broader social, cultural, and political dynamics. The course encourages critical thinking about how these themes are portrayed in different forms of media and how they reflect and shape societal attitudes within Hispanic communities. Through this exploration, students develop a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding health, disability, and identity in the Hispanic world.
