Catalog description

We consider the experiences of children in a cultural and historical context, with a focus on how social expectations for childhood vary over time and space. Using both a micro-and macro-sociological approach, we discuss a variety of topics including the impact of peer cultures and how various social institutions shape the experiences of children. In addition, we explore the many ways social expectations for childhood and adolescence have been defined and have evolved over time. Semester(s) Offered: Offered as needed
