Catalog description

Taught in English, this course offers interdisciplinary explorations of Italian cultures, history, society, and politics through a broad sample of texts and films from World War II to the present. While examining Italian cultures as reflections of past and current sociopolitical trends, students develop a sense of cinematic literacy that helps them to become active interpreters of cinematic and narrative texts and to become acquainted with the cultural and historical background that produced them. Readings are in English and films are in Italian with English subtitles. No knowledge of Italian is required for this course. This course may be repeated up to two times for credit under different topics. Semester(s) Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer
