This course explores the American Civil Rights Movement as a transformative era in U.S. history, tracing its origins, strategies, goals, and legacies throughout the 20th century. Students engage in historical research and interpretation of the movement through in-depth study of primary documents, oral histories, film, and secondary readings that represent a range of scholarly perspectives. The course further highlights local and national campaigns, leadership networks, landmark legislation, and the contested memory of the movement. Semester(s) Offered: Offered as needed
