Catalog description

This course will explore the major events and themes of the Ottoman Empire from the late 13th to the early 20th century. It will look at the empire’s origins, expansion, stagnation, decline, reformation attempts, World War I, the War of Independence and the creation of the Turkish Republic, and, finally, the Ottoman legacy in the Balkans and the Middle East.
