Catalog description

A grade of ‘C’ or better in EXSS 301. This course builds upon the foundational principles of coaching to explore the evolving landscape of sport coaching, emphasizing contemporary issues, evidence-based practices, and applied coaching strategies. Students analyze current challenges in sport, such as ethics, equity, technology, and athlete wellbeing, while learning to apply data, metrics, and performance analytics to enhance coaching effectiveness. The course focuses on injury prevention, athlete safety, and risk management. Professional development is also a key component, with opportunities to pursue an external credential or attend a coaching conference to engage with the broader sport community. Through discussion, applied projects, and experiential learning, students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate modern coaching environments with competence, creativity, and professionalism.
