Catalog description

A grade of ‘C’ or better in ASTR 101 and ASTR 101L ; PHYS 221 ; and PHYS 212 and PHYS 212L or PHYS 214 and PHYS 214L This course provides a broad quantitative overview of astronomy. Students apply physical principles such as distance scales, magnitudes, mass, velocity, temperature, pressure, and angular momentum to understand celestial phenomena. Topics include the celestial sphere, coordinate systems, orbital mechanics, spectroscopy, telescopes, the Sun, and stellar properties. Semester(s) Offered: Offered as needed
