Students will explore the African American experience in Northeast Ohio, focusing on critical topics such as race, class, privilege, discrimination, and fundamental inequality. The course also emphasizes brilliance, innovation, resilience, leadership, and joy by highlighting Black activism, political figures, arts and cultural achievements, and the importance of the Black Church. This approach provides a thorough understanding of the multifaceted African American experience in Cleveland, highlighting the significant impact of Black Greater Clevelanders on Northeast Ohio and beyond.
