Prerequisite: Junior standing or permission of the instructor. This course explores theatrical representations of gender and sexualities in theatre and performance. It also examines the role of gender and sexuality in writing and creating theatre. In addition, this course explores the various traditions of representation gender and sexuality. It is intended to develop an understanding of how representation, performance and theatre play a part in limiting, changing, exploring, challenging, stereotyping, and liberating the human experience of gender and sexuality. Plays, scholarly texts, popular cultural texts and media will all be used to investigate the topic.
