Social Work Data Analysis and Statistics

Catalog description

Prerequisite: SWK 200 and SWK 201. This course studies critical methods of inquiry and evaluation related to social work practice and teaches descriptive and inferential statistics applications, as well as hypothesis testing. This course fosters an appreciation for the necessity to employ unbiased, valid, and systematic knowledge in social work practice. Students are expected to develop a critical understanding of how unsubstantiated and biased assumptions may form the basis for misconceptions about the nature and needs of people. Students will build on learning from previous and/or concurrent theory (SWK 302 & SWK 303), policy (SWK 201 & SWK 300), research methods (SWK 304), and practice (SWK 350) courses and integrate research methods knowledge for practice and real world field practicum experiences (SWK 385; SWK 386; SWK 390; SWK 395; SWK 485; SWK 486; SWK 490; SWK 495).
