This course explores contemporary social welfare issues in the context of the history of social welfare policy, services, and the social work profession. The course will investigate various social welfare policies to explore the meaning and purpose of social justice, ideologies, and values. Content will explore the evolution of social welfare policy within the United States over-time, and the role of social work(ers) in the development of social policy. This content covers the role of social policy in promoting social justice, helping people maintain or achieve optimal health and well-being, and the need for social workers to address challenges inherent in policy making.
